Cyclists at the Summer Cycle

Organisers of the Leverhulme Summer Cycle are reporting strong interest as the event prepares to return in September.

Hundreds of people have so far registered their intention to take part in the event.

The Summer Cycle will start this year at Claire House, whose supporters will also look after marshalling at the car park, before moving on to the tree-lined tracks of the Leverhulme Estate. People with adapted cycles or trikes will be able to start at Brimstage Hall.

A number of local businesses and clubs will also be in attendance on Sunday, September 12, including Hyacinth Vintage Ice Cream Van, The Chocolate Cellar and Port Sunlight Rugby and Cricket Club. There will song and theatre performances throughout the day and activities for younger children.

Families will also be able to enjoy the various food and retail outlets at Brimstage Hall & Courtyard.

The event was last held in 2019 with hundreds of cyclists of all ages enjoying the opportunity to explore some of the hidden paths of the Estate.

Ed Lamb, one of the founders of Rethink Now, which campaigns for stronger, healthier communities through environmental sustainability, said: “Planning is going extremely well with lots of registrations through our website and social media activity.

“We are also delighted with the mix of local businesses and clubs wanting to be involved in the day.

“It is also great that Claire House has offered its car park as a starting point before people head on to the Leverhulme tracks.”

Tom O’Leary, Leverhulme’s Estate Manager, said: “Health and wellbeing has never been more important as we emerge from the unprecedented events of the last 18 months.

“We are delighted to be able to host the return of the Summer Cycle giving Wirral families the opportunity to explore some of the lovely tracks in and around Brimstage Hall & Courtyard.”
